Ready to expand your pantry? I have compiled a list of low carb groceries that I think are great to keep around for cooking!
**This article contains some affiliate links. By purchasing from one of these links I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you!**
This lists includes a lot and you may find you do not need everything on it. I have roughly ordered it by what I find most important!
Always check the carbs on everything! You never know what brands may have some extra sugars!
You may find that you need to buy most the foods on this list online. Some stores that have a healthy food section may carry these products but not all! I also personally find it cheaper to shop online!
Below I will go in depth with the list to explain why some items are on here and where to buy them.
You will need a lot of Almond Flour! It is use in several recipes and in large amounts. It is most commonly used in bread recipes, Fat Head dough, such as bagels and crackers, as well as cheesecake bases.
Coconut flour is also used quite often. It’s used in some Fat Head dough recipes, however, it’s not used as often as Almond Flour.
Coconut Oil/Coconut Butter
Most often used to make fatbombs but also used in a variety of other methods. Coconut oil can be used in cooking as well!
You’ll find Xanthan Gum used in recipes here in there. You don’t NEED it but you’ll likely want it at some point as you can’t make the recipes nearly as well without it. It’s a binding agent that use will see mostly in dessert recipes, but some bread recipes require it as well! It’s used in small amount so it will last awhile.
Okay so this one is a bit harder to explain since most recipes like to call for a specific sweetener. You’re likely not going to keep every kind in your pantry, I sure don’t, but you’ll need to find which one works best for you!
Erythritol is probably the most popular followed by swerve, it typically does not matter what sweetener you use in most recipes but since some sweeteners are actually sweeter than others you made need to add or reduce the amount of ‘sugar’ you are using.
The Netrition one is the one I am currently using.
Stevia Sweet Drops
I recommend buying a bottle of Stevia drops. You won’t use them that often but it’s used quite frequently in dessert recipes and you don’t use a lot so it will last you!
Sugar Free Cocoa
Sugar free or close to sugar free cocoa is used in pretty much every chocolate dessert recipe. It’s good to keep some around encase you get the cravings for it!
Lilly’s Baking Chips
Lilly’s Baking Chips is something I actually do not have yet but is recommended in a lot of low carb chocolate desserts. I plan on buying it soon!
Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
Just another something used if you are making cookies or cookie dough fatbombs!
Encase you don’t have it you’ll want cinnamon! It’s used in dessert and breakfast items such as pancakes and cinnamon rolls!
Oat fiber isn’t used all that often so you can wait to buy this, however, you may find you want it in the future. I have seen it in one bagel recipes but other than that it’s in very few desserts.
Peanut Butter Powder
Peanut Butter Powder is seen in some dessert recipes and some fat bombs. If you are not a fan of peanut butter you don’t really need to worry about this one as you likely won’t want to make these recipes anyways.
Whey Protein Powder (Vanilla)
I recommend getting this when you can. I have yet to buy it because it can be a little steep in price, however a decent amount of recipes request it.
Avocado Oil Mayo
While you can use this as is, it’s also used in an avocado spread recipe.
Not only does this make a great snack but it’s also used in cooking! You may see it used to make crackers but it’s more commonly used as a breading. I buy the big tubs on Amazon that are just under $7 and they last quite awhile!
Sugar Free Ketchup
This is a cheap buy and will last you awhile so long as no one else in your house uses it and puts about a 1/2 of cup of ketchup on everything, saying from experience. It tastes just like the real thing and you should actually be able to find it in any store!
Protein Shakes (I prefer Chocorite)
I wanted to add this one here because you may find yourself not wanting to have Breakfast or Lunch all the time. I keep a couple of different protein shakes around to use as meal supplements. It’s great for on the go or just an easy meal. Chocorite is my favorite as far as flavors go, it’s a little steep in price if you want multiple flavors at once but I started with just two and added on from there.
If you are looking to make a recipe that includes hot sauce this is the one to get. I have found it in the grocery store but if you can’t it’s cheap online as well. It’s used in buffalo chicken recipes and there are a few variety of the recipes out there, such as meals or dips. You can also use it to spice up your eggs in the morning!
Guy’s Sugar Free BBQ Sauce
This is the most popular low carb BBQ sauce I’ve seen. Sadly I can’t say much for it as I left it at my ex’s house when I moved out and just have not come about repurchasing it. It’s not expensive and can easily be found online!
Low Carb Pasta/Pizza/Marinara Sauce
Rao’s is my favorite, I have found it multiple times in the store in the pasta section! There are a variety of flavors but I currently keep Roasted Garlic for my pasta sauce and Marinara for a dipping sauce!
This is an ingredient you’ll see used in bread recipes mostly seen on http://www.dietdoctor.com
The recipes are actually pretty good and they don’t use a lot of Psyllium Husk so you can buy one bag to keep around and it will last awhile!
Peanut Butter (Just Peanuts and Salt)
A few recipes request creamy peanut butter, don’t be confused though it does not mean just any peanut butter. For low carb recipes you’ll want a peanut butter that is just Peanuts and Salt, check the ingredients!
Used in a few dessert recipes I figured I would add Nutilight. It can be found in grocery stores with Nutella or can be purchased online. I would use this to make a cheese cake!
Sugar Free Syrup Flavors
I love these flavors! I personally buy them from Netrition and they are only $7.99 each for a huge bottle. I use to buy these in the sugar flavors before low carbing and continue to buy the sugar free now! They are really good and great in coffee and other drinks like hot cocoa! I am buying more for the upcoming fall and winter that I can’t wait to share with you guys!
Right now I use the Vanilla Bean Syrup and put it in my French Vanilla Coffee with some HWC and it is SO GOOD.
Sugar Free Pancake Syrup
Like pancakes? You’ll want a sugar free pancake syrup! I bought mine off of Amazon and the price was a little high but they last. I found Strawberry to be my favorite and while it does taste a little watered down I found when I add just a bit of whip cream it reminds me of iHOP!
Apple Cider Vinegar or Apple Cider Vinegar Pills
You’ll see this talked about quite often if you are apart of any low carb group on Facebook. Apple Cider Vinegar is claimed to help with many things such as blood pressure, weight loss, and suppressing your appetite. I tried it once to help me go #2 and although I cant say for sure it was the Apple Cider Vinegar I did have to go. I did just recently buy the pills since I can’t stand the taste of the Apple Cider Vinegar so we’ll have to give it a go.
Remember never drink the Apple Cider Vinegar straight, always dilute it in something!
First of all I want to address a major concern of mine regarding MCT Oil. Recently there was a post in one of my groups on Facebook that linked to a knock off. Because there was a coupon that made the knock off so heavily discounted it sold out extremely fast. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS IN THIS. The labels have all been photo-shopped including the ingredient label I requested. The actual label was copied from another companies so I don’t trust anything it says. There is not a single review on the product and little information in the description. If you are so concerned about what you’re putting into your body then don’t buy knock off’s just because it’s cheap! Do your research!
Rant over, but there will be a blog dedicated to this matter soon.
Similar to Apple Cider Vinegar MCT Oil has become very popular too. The bright side is this one is flavorless so it should be a bit easier to down. The downside is it’s much more expensive, but you use so little it’s a bit of an investment!
Sugar Free Teriyaki Sauce
You have no reason not to buy this! I bought it and it tastes just like the real thing. I get some pre-cooked frozen chicken bites and cook it in my wok. Stir in some of the Teriyaki sauce and let it sit in it to absorb the flavor, yum!
Everything But The Bagel Seasoning
If you’ve heard about low carb bagels you’ve likely heard about Everything But The Bagel Seasoning. It’s from Trader Joe’s and only $2 but if you don’t have a Trader Joe’s close, they sell similar seasonings on Amazon just a bit more expensive. The stuff is good and can be used in things besides bagels such as 90 second low carb bread!
Feel like I am missing something? Have questions about what’s on the list? Feel free to leave a comment! I will update the list when I feel it is needed!
